The National Motorcycle Museum faced its worst disaster yet when, on 16
September 2003, a fire destroyed almost half its rare collection. Although
more than 400 of the 800 exhibits at the attraction were saved in the blaze,
those lost are estimated to be worth up to ?9 million.
A legend in the world of motorcycle racing Mr Geoff Duke OBE will be
re-opening the museum on 15 January 2005, as he did 20 years ago. The
National Motorcycle Museum has been described as 'the world's finest
motorcycle museum'. In addition to the motorcycles, there is a gift shop a
licensed restaurant and free parking.
