The Grand old Duke of York he had ten thousand men
He marched them up to the top of the hill
And he marched them down again.
When they were up, they were up
And when they were down, they were down
And when they were only halfway up
They were neither up nor down.
More English history, this time its
telling us the story of Richard (Duke of York) defeat in the Wars of
the Roses back in 1455. Richard marched his army to Sandal Castle
(On a hill)
The Wars of the Roses was so called
because the army's symbols were roses. This war lasted over 30 years
!
However Richard was killed when he left
the safety of Sandal Castle, to attack the House of Lancaster army
who were at the bottom of the hill :)-
